6 simple ideas for making memories with your children this half term

Half term is almost upon us. For some it's this week and for others it's next week. Whenever yours lands, here are a few simple ways you can create some memories to treasure.

1. Create some art

Ask your child(ren) to draw or paint some artwork for your walls. I have done this with my kids recently and I'm going to frame them and add them to the gallery wall. They will love seeing their creations in pride of place too!

2. Hand + foot prints

When was the last time you did some hand prints or foot prints with your child(ren)? They aren't just for newborns! Grab some paper and paints and get messy! Write their name, age and date on the back and save them for when they aren't so little anymore.

3. Take a family photo

I don't know about you, but I can't remember the last time we took a photograph of ALL of us. Set your camera phone on timer and take a family photo. Don't worry about making it "Insta worthy", otherwise you'll never do it. Embrace the mess and the chaos, it all adds to the memory in years to come.

4. Write a letter

If your child(ren) can write, why not suggest they write a letter to someone. It's so nice watching them write and reading what they put. It's also a lovely way to make someone you love smile. Happy post is always welcomed! Plus, you can take a photograph of it before you send it.

5. Make a video

This video isn't for a scroll stopping Instagram reel, it's for you. Choose a day when you're all at home and just walk around filming the mundane for a few minutes. Capture what the kids are up to, maybe ask them some questions, film parts of your house or garden. It's the every day that often passes by undocumented, but it's often the every day that is most special when you look back on it years later.

6. Photograph their room

Unless we're an interiors influencer, we don't often take photographs of our kids bedrooms, even though they often showcase so much of their personalities. Spend a few minutes photographing their room, their bedding, their favourite "displays", the books they're reading and any other bits that you think will be special to look back on.
